About me

Anja Demić was born in Belgrade and studied at the Faculty of Applied Arts where she began developing her sense of identity as an artist. Throughout her studies and even after the focus of her work slowly reflected in structure, motion and hands as the most primal, organic tool one could use to connect with people and the world outside of themselves.

She finds inspiration in using non-traditional ways of creating motion and structure, rebelling against what we expect out of any typical artistic process. Her strength and confidence were founded in the idea that she is not only creating art, she is developing spaces, not just paintings and installations. But also, as very thin spaces just outside of human skin which can be studied in her conceptual work ‘Belgrade skin’. She is carefully sensing missing pieces and starting to build on this intuition. With her hands touching the canvas, whether that canvas is metal, clay or human skin she gives herself all in, making sure that each touch finds its purpose.

The artist uses mixed media to create and has a wide range of artistic disciplines in her work.
